Scripture Reflections

Our culture is so damaged.  Most of us have been extremely hurt, betrayed and abused. This has an adverse affect on our mind, thoughts and even the brain itself. This can lead to a very unhealthy and destructive view of ourselves, God and others.

One of the best ways to get healthier in your thinking is to meditate on truth. We have discovered the incredible transformation of our minds by processing, thinking, pondering, reflecting and applying God's Word.

Linda and I normally have a time set aside to read Scripture.  We write down a verse or two in a journal and try to discern the truth and application in this.  It has taken many, many years of this process to help liberate our stinkin' thinkin'.   So, it is just one way, you may be able to become healthier.

Here are some Scriptures for you to focus on!  We are adding more to this.  Let us how your journey into God's word is making a difference.

"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." Col 3:1-2

"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will." Rom 12:2

"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit." 2 Cor 3:17-18

The ancient writings of the Books of Psalms (Ps.), Proverbs (Prov.) and Ecclesiastes (Eccl.) are rich with timeless truths for everyday living.  These truths are historic and foundation for healthy beliefs.  As our culture continues to lose its way, may these writings be a fresh wind of hope, faith and love for your life and relationships.

Each day try to set aside a little time to read, reflect, write, and apply these as needed.  Select a topic of interest, read slowly through the Scripture of your choosing. What is being revealed to you?  What is it?  How can you apply this to your life, relationships and work?  When will you begin to apply this?

When you see these numbers, such as 3:21-24, it means Chapter 3 and verses: 21-24.

Here is a good summary of Proverbs.  Also, we believe this is similar to the intent of Psalms and Ecclesiastes.

  • To attain wisdom and discipline
  • To understand words of insight
  • To acquire a disciplined and prudent life
  • To do what is right, just and fair
  • To give prudence to the simple
  • To give knowledge and discretion to the young (Proverbs 1: 1-6)

"Preserve sound judgment and discernment, do not let them out of your sight; they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble; when you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Prov. 3:21-24 (Chapter 3 verses 21 through 24)
